Proposal

Story Homes is bringing forward plans to help address the local housing shortage in Kendal, by delivering a mix of housing that reflects local needs, on land identified as a ‘Broad Location’ for growth within the South Lakeland Local Plan (2013).

The plans will deliver up to 450 homes at Burton Road in a variety of styles and sizes, with 35% of the properties made available as affordable. This range of property types and sizes will be attractive to first-time buyers, growing families who need more space, as well as those looking to downsize.

Set within landscaped grounds and green open space, this high-quality and sustainable neighbourhood has been designed to respect local heritage assets and enhance local biodiversity.

Community Benefits

The site will provide up to 450 high-quality homes, varying from 1–6-bedroom properties, ideal for first time buyers, growing families, or those looking to downsize in their later years. 35% of the properties will be classed as affordable.
The enhancement of public open spaces and the use of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) will not only benefit future residents but also improve the local environment. These green spaces will be open to everyone, encouraging outdoor activities and promoting a healthier lifestyle.
The construction phase of the development will create local job opportunities, supporting businesses and tradespeople in the area. Additionally, the increased population will bring additional customers to local shops, services, and amenities.
The development will provide funding towards local infrastructure improvements. These contributions will benefit the wider community, ensuring Kendal remains a thriving area.
By incorporating measures to enhance local biodiversity, expanding the range of habitats, such as native tree and shrub species and increased focus on landscaping and green infrastructure, the development will support the local ecosystem and contribute to environmental sustainability.
