Clifton is ideally placed both in terms of accessibility and local amenities. The M6 Motorway, A6 and A66 are close by and the West Coast railway line runs through Penrith. The village has a church and a lovely pub, widely known for serving seasonal local food and ales. The ever popular Abbott Lodge Ice Cream Farm is just a stone’s throw away, as is Lowther village with acres of parkland, walks and cycling opportunities with a newly opened ‘Lost Castle’ adventure playground (part of Lowther Castle) built with 17,700 metres of timber. Brougham Castle, King Arthur’s Round Table and Mayburgh Henge are all within two miles of Clifton.
Three miles away you’ll find the lovely market town of Penrith. Nestled between the internationally renowned Lake District National Park to the west and the imposing Pennines to the east, the town has its own golf course, as well as many opportunities for outdoor activities. The ruins at Penrith Castle offer a great place to let off steam and has a good children’s play area, tennis courts and bowling green. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, Penrith offers an interesting choice of goods and fine foods, intermingled with a variety of supermarkets including Sainsbury’s and Booths. There are a good choice of pubs, local and international restaurants and evening entertainment.
