Lifeguard buys first home with help from affordable housing scheme

December 2018

A lifeguard trainer from Sedgefield has moved into her very first home, with Durham County Council’s Discounted Market Sale scheme enabling her to purchase a new-build Story Home.

Ashley Boardman, 25, chose to take the first step on the housing ladder by buying a two-bedroom property at our St Edmund’s Manor development.

Having lived in Sedgefield all her life, Ashley wanted to stay in the area but make the move to her own home. With St Edmund’s Manor being just five minutes from her parents’ house, it proved to be the ideal location.

Ashley said: “I love living in this area and I’m pleased that I found a property that has a high specification, is on a beautiful development, located very close to work and yet still affordable.”

Ashley selected the ‘Hawthorn’ house type, which features two bedrooms, a spacious tiled bathroom, downstairs cloakroom, high quality kitchen and turfed rear garden.

She said: “I wasn’t originally looking to purchase a home so soon, but I noticed that there were going to be two-bedroom homes here so I visited the nearby Story Homes development at Wynyard to find out more. I ended up registering my details and the Sales Executive, Sharon, said she would call as soon as the two-bedrooms in Sedgefield were released for sale.

“I got the call from Sharon in early summer this year and reserved my plot, and my completion was just a few months later. It’s all happened really quickly and my experience with Story Homes has been fantastic throughout. Their support has been very helpful for me as a first-time buyer, and the team’s flexibility too. For example I couldn’t get time off work on my completion day so they were happy to work around my shifts.”

Ashley selected a corner plot, which benefits from a spacious garden and a driveway. She continued: “The layout of the house is just what I wanted. I like that the stairs come down into the lounge, particularly as I live on my own. There are aspects that I didn’t anticipate having in a new-build, such as a large bathroom and high ceilings.

“I love the attractive exteriors of Story Homes too, and the fact that the front doors are all different colours. I’m looking forward to starting to decorate; I’ll be turning the second bedroom into a dressing room and I’ve planned a blush pink and grey colour scheme. It’s exciting to have a blank canvas that I can transform into my dream home.”

Lyndsey Walton, Sales Manager, commented: “We are committed to helping young people to get onto the property ladder and our smaller properties are ideal for first-time buyers, particularly as the Help to Buy scheme or local Councils’ affordable housing scheme can be used.

“This 80-home development has been selling really well, due to its desirable location in the village of Sedgefield and easy access to major commuter routes. We have some four and five-bedroom properties remaining, with special offers on selected plots in the run-up to Christmas.”

Our 12 Days of Christmas offers are currently available at St Edmund’s Manor. Reserve your new home on this development before 12 December 2018 and receive £10,000 towards your deposit.* Register your details on the development page or call our Sales Executive on 0777 303 0473 for further information.
