Ways to reduce your energy bills

February 2022

As the upcoming rise of energy costs continues to be a hot topic, we’ve put together a few tips you could implement to help reduce your consumption and ensure your home is energy efficient.

  • Turn your thermostat down by just one degree to save up to £80 a year
  • Turn off appliances at the plug to save an average of £30 per year
  • Spend a minute less in the shower and save approximately 36 litres of water a day for a family of four
  • Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth and use a washing up bowl rather than letting the water run continuously
  • Only run your washing machine and dishwasher when they’re full and use energy-efficient programs. Dry your washing outside, rather than using radiators or your tumble dryer
  • Use energy efficient light fittings and remember to turn off lights in the rooms you’re not using
  • When cooking, put lids on pan and heat food in the microwave rather than the oven where possible as it uses less energy
  • If you’re replacing an appliance, you can cut your electricity bills by choosing the most energy-efficient model. For example, you can save up to £182 per year when choosing a more efficient fridge freezer and tumble dryer
